Large book case

My daughter lives in an apartment in Dublin and has lots and lots and lots of books! She really needs a large book case where could she get one that does not cost the earth. Thank you

There's a good on in Ikea that comes in different sizes and colours, called 'Billy.' Very cheap as well.

Have a look at the freebies site on Gumtree. Might be lucky

Ive thousands of books and have exhaustively searched for good bookcasing over the years.

Ikea are the best IMO - I have floor to ceiling bookcasing on 3 walls in my main room, with glass doors (very important to me, keeps the dust off), I got them in Ikea, they have extender bits on the top so go right up to the ceiling. It is the Billy bookcase system.

I priced everywhere else, and Ikea won hands down - but you DO have to put them together which can be a pain.

I second the Ikea Billy bookcases, they're cheap, sturdy and come in a range of finishes as well as several heights and widths. They also, which I hadn't seen before, come with a section of the back board cut out to make room for skirting boards, so you can have them right up to the wall (although I had to make the cut-out section bigger to fit my skirting). And you can also get glass doors for them (if you have room) which look very good.

They are self-assembly, although I think most bookshelves are, but they are very easy to make up.

Check them out here: http://www.ikea.com/ie/en/catalog/categories/departments/living_room/11683/

Does she own the apartment or is she renting? If she owns it then it might be better value to get a chippie in to put in a full wall white MDF shelf unit or something similar, to maximise the amount of books she can store.

The cut out section is for standard Swedish skirting boards - Irish skirting boards are bigger.

Agree here.
I got a great guy to do a half wall of very nice shelves for a couple of €100. Custom designed to fit the space, they look great.

Thanks a million for all the replies. Yes its her own (and AIB's!) apartment. I thought is would be very expensive to get it made. Would it be possible to have the Phone no's of the guy you used? I will also have a look at the Ikea ones.
Many Thanks
