laptop to lcd tv

Hi,

got a 39" lcd tv yeasterday which has a pc input socket and came with a pc to tv cable (same as you would have between a harddrive and a monitor).
When I went to connect up the laptop (was hoping to stream) it was giving me a "no Signal" response on the TV.

Any suggestions as to what Im doing wrong?

Have you confirmed the following:

the right cable linking the laptop to the TV?
Is the TV on 'PC input' or similar?
Some laptops need to be manually activated to let them output to a TV - usually a function key plus a key on the keyboard. Might be worth checking out the laptop manual.

Eh!!!?!?

I presume you mean something like a "system unit" rather than a "harddrive"?
 


yea - all of this is correct - but still not getting a signal
 
Maybe you have to enable the specific input using the on screen menus or something?

What make/model of TV and computer do you have?
 
I bought a svhs cable with scart adaptor and found that sometimes I was also getting the blank screen bit.I finally discovered that the laptop must be re-started with the cable connected to get a picture on the LCD.U cannot simply connect the cable while the laptop is on.There does not appear to be an "enable SVHS" box or button that I can locate anyway.Maybe this will help.
 
Seens obvious but use the tv/av button on ur remote control to scroll down to computer/pc etc.

Check the video mode being output by the laptop, maybe the resolution is not compatible with the TV. E.G. resolution (1024x768) or refresh rate (60hz).

The TV manual should say what settings it will accept and if you look at the advanced properties on your video card software driver settings there may be some settings you have to make there to bring everything into line.

Also, there are two possible modes:
1: The TV 'extends' your desktop.
2: The TV shows what's on your desktop.
 
I bought a tv at the weekend and the shop owner told me that some tv's have connections for laptops but they can only be used to update firmware/software or whatever you call it. I was very surprised but perhaps this could be the case here? Check to see if the manual definately states it can be used to view laptop applications.
