my son moved to a house which has ntl wireless broadband. He has entered the code in his laptop but still can't access the internet through internet explorer.Any ideas?

Does it work for anybody else?
Does any other wireless network elsewhere work with his laptop?

Is the wireless router setup to serve out ip addresses (ie. dhcp switched on in router configuration)? If so, the settings on his laptop should mirror this for the network connection ie. 'Obtain an ip address automatically'.

Is there any MAC filtering setup on the router? If so, this may be the problem.

thanks. The lan status shows activity and "connected".Also the lan settings in Internet Explorer is ticked at" automatically detect settings"

Go into 'Network Connections' and try and setup a 'new network connection' from scratch. If the problems not on the laptop side, he will need to access the configuration settings of the router. To do this, he needs to know the ip address to find settings index page - then username and password to configure.

I recently set upa friends Wireless Broadband and the main rpoblem we had was that we couldn't connect to the router. I removed Inetrnet explorer (well, hid it to be more accurate), and replaced it with firefox.

That solved the Problem, but probably not applicable in your case
