Do u know what effect accecpting rent allowance has on a landlord.
As the new landlady says she doesnt want to accecpt it as she'll end up paying more tax?

this is a question,copied and pasted,asked to me.does anyone know the answer? a family member,who's unemployed and getting rent allowance wants to move to a new property but it seems the new landlady has changed her mind where accepting rent allowance is concerned.
AFAIK if a person is renting out their accomodation and are registered as a landlord and therefore accepting rent allownace they won't receive their TRS on the mortgage plus the added bonus of registering for self-assessment IT and filing their tax returns each year but if they don't register as a landlord they will be able to get the TRS, but with the changes to the TRS meaning you can only get it for 7 years people might start registering as landlords
If the landlady has her tax affairs up to date and accurate then accepting Rent Supplement tenants will be no different than renting to non Rent Supplement tenants.
Landlord details are passed on from HSE to Revenue Commissioners each year, along with the amount of Rent Supplement paid in respect of a tenancy.
