Key Post: Recommend a Dublin Restaurant/Breakfast?

Re: The cellar bar

Bond -- yes it closed. Wine was good value, food was viciously overpriced and cold on the night I was there, shortly before the shutters went up for the last time. This placed sucked donkeyballs, as coola would say. A right rip-off, c*ltic t**er style.

Has anyone mentioned Independent Pizza in Drumcondra by the way? Reasonable prices, cheerful service, best pizza around.

Anywhere with good food that isn't overpriced is good. Sadly, that rules out most restaurants in Dublin.

Re: Il Primo

I have never had a bad meal in Il Primo. But they do this wine by the glass thing where they leave the bottle on the table and you only want one glass but it's so delish that you have another little drop and then another and all of sudden you're buying the whole bottle! I can resist anything except temptation! I have never had an inexpensive meal there, either!

I am bringing a friend and her two children out for dinner, kids aged 3 & 6-ish (I think!). Any ideas for a suitable venue in Dublin area in the evening where kids won't be too bored? I would prefer to avoid McDonald's or Burger King.

thanks for any ideas,
tedd

The Bad Ass Cafe, Temple Bar is another suggestion.

Try Pizza Hut. There is a nice one in Rathmines.

Casa Pasta, Donnybrook - you can draw on the tablecloth

Cityexile

TFIs across from UCI Blanchardstown Town Centre, I bring my 4 & 2 year olds there.

Feedback:
Thanks for all suggestions. We ended up going to Captain America's on Grafton Street. Kids loved walking there and listening to buskers and seeing the highlight of their trip to Dublin...the statue of Molly Malone!!!!

The staff were great with the kids, drawing on tablecloths, kiddie portions and even dropped down extra chicken nuggets when they saw that it was the only thing the boy-child would eat. As it was the girl-child's birthday, there was singing, candles and a concoction of desserts for them. Plus got to throw a few cocktails into their mother, so she enjoyed it too.

Re: Dublin restaurants for kids

Was in the Mermaid Café (mentioned earlier) for the first time at the weekend and it was excellent. A little pricey by my standards but it was my birthday and, well, I'm worth it... :lol

Re: Favourite Restaurants

If you are a Japanese fan, I would recommend Chai Yo on Baggot St. (opposite the Bank of Ireland offices).
Went there with a few friends for Herself's birthday, and had a great time.

There are two teppan-yaki tables [broken link removed]
on the ground floor, which are very entertaining if you are in a suitably boisterous group (I was told by a couple who went there that it feels like you've been brought up on stage with a performer, if you're there on your own).

The serving staff were so charming and efficient throughout the entire meal, that we instantly forgave them the three-verse version of "Happy Birthday" (with guitar and drum accompaniment) that they subjected us to.

Not the cheapest place I've been to, but far from being the dearest, and you do get what pay for.

Good restaurants in Dublin

For EXCELLENT food and EXCELLENT service, check out
L'eqrievan on Baggot Street and Chapter One on Parnell Sq. Both expensive but excellent top class restaurants.

Re: Breakfast in Dublin

Not a lot of places open early for breakfast on the weekend in Dublin, which is a pain.

There are a few places in D2:
Andrew st (O'Brien's - upstairs in the Bord Failte head office);
Sth William st - Lemon for crepes, Butlers' Chocolate Cafe and a Munchies (soups and sandwiches);
Exchequer st - Rio;
Trinity St - Keoghs (for cooked breakfast), another Rio
and Suffolk St.

Temple Bar has some more restaurants and cafés that are probably more expensive (IMO) and may open in the morning.

For possibly the best value fry, try Gerry's Cafe, down a little street off Harcourt street (opposite where the Children's Hospital used be). The cops use it all the time, so it must be good!

Agree with sunnyday.
It's just up from St Stephen's Green/Luas terminus.
Get the LARGE one, it's a monster.
You'll get FREE refill, coffee or tea.
I used to go there every day for 3 years, had to stop couldn't afford the new wardrobe every 6 months!
You will also find a lot of the guys who frequent the casinos beside it, go in there on the way from "Work".

Breakfast in Dublin

Best of all is the BrewBaker cafe just off Nassau St (beside the beautifully named Knobs and Knockers). Their breakfast, breakfast roll and breakfast sandwiches are fantastic, and they use proper sausages, not catering ones.

Re: >>Recommend a Dublin Breakfast?

Has anyone been to the Winding Stair?

I have a first date next week, and was thinking of taking her there or to Talbot 101. Which is the better one?
