Kettle boiling its inside surface off!

Hi guys, bought a Morphy Richards Titanium kettle in January. It appears that with every use there are particles of the inside surface coming loose. Makes the kettle impossible for use for making tea/coffee etc.

Now it doesn't help that I accidently broke the plastic filter thing that attaches to the spout but surely the inside surface is not supposed to come loose? And in any case even if the particles didn't end up in the tea, the water tastes awful from it. I've just sent an e-mail to MR customer care about it but wondered if anyone else had the same problem?

Bring it back to where you bought it from and explain the problems.

Sound like lime scale for sure, I'd check it before running back to shop, spare red faces and all that.

Does limescale look like bits of metallic paint?

I've now taken to boiling water for tea in a pot on the stove!

We often have limescale in our water and this is exactly how it can look inside the kettle.

The quickest way to get rid that we have found is to buy the scale away stuff in the supermarkets and use as instructed on the pack.

The kettle will be clear in no time. We also have some sort of water filtration system - we notice this build-up when hubby hasn't put the necessary things (salt etc) in the system.
And we also use a Brita filter jug - it keeps it at bay too.

No..limescale is usually white, cream or even a browny colour as it gets old. I've never likened it to metallic paint. :(

Great!, I did a search for limescale as we have loads of it in my workshop kettle.. so I'll try that product someone mentioned, can it be got in Tesco? Is it poisonous?

Is it bad to drink loads of limescale?, I am drinking it anyway, it's just Calcium is it?, but it does look pretty off putting when you pour our the water.

Our water here in the workshop in Roundwood is coming from a well,.. it's not public water.. the landlord has a pumping house.. we're above the resevoir which is only down the road.. down a hill... so I suppose there's no public water available above the resevoir..

Joe, this post was from 2006!

That ScaleAway is fine. You can buy it in Tesco. Alternatively, use vinegar.

Just rinse everything really well afterwards.
