Appreciate your opinions please on knocking an internal wall to open up the hallway and livingroom into one.
The hallway is so tiny, just the width of a door that it is hardly worth having it at all. Knocking the hallway wall would give a much larger living room space.
Are there any disadvantages to getting rid of a tiny hallway?
Thats a very valid point regarding heat loss and insulation etc...which had somehow not occured to me. There is however, a small external closed porch also, not sure if this makes a difference or not re heat loss
That changes the landscape somewhat. If the porch walls and roof are insulated, the door is tight and draught proofed and windows are doublegazed then not much heat loss. But you may well need to get a bigger radiator.
Would that mean that your front door opens into your livingroom? My concern would be to do with privacy. I like to be able to answer my front door without a 'living room' audience
if you're as messy as me you may find your living room starts looking more cluttered, eg shoes, coats, bags, muddy footprints. personally i like not seeing all that stuff when i'm in the living room, but then maybe you're more capable of tidying up after yourself than me!!
