i have been living out of the country for the last 2 years and just returned home. I went in to the dole office to sign on for the first time ever and got the forms etc and got a date to go back in for a meeting. At the moment im staying in my friends and not paying rent and they want proof of address but i dont have any does any one know what the story on this or has anyone been in this situation before?

any help would be appriciated!!

cheers

Have your friend write (and sign) a letter to confirm that you are staying there, and bring a recent utility bill with your friend's name on it. That should be sufficient proof of your current address.

why should you be entitled to the dole? you have not contributed as you have lived abroad. Why not do something wild and look for a job?

cheers Celtwytch would ya reckon thats all they will need? Ill certainly do that.

Pennypitstop why wouldn i be entitled to the dole? im Irish and have worked in Ireland for over ten years, but thanks for the advice very helpful!

Of course you are entitled to dole but be sure to get proof of address for them.

cheers flashers but see thats the prob cause i been out the country i have no proof of address and staying with a mate.

Some EU citizen friends were staying with me and wanted to get PPS numbers. I simply wrote a letter, giving my PPS number, confirming that my address in Ireland was their address. Everything was fine.

ah cheers Eblanold, yeah that seems to be the way forward alright, I have to go back in for a meeting with my forms filled in etc so ill get a letter from my friend and go from there.
