We got married towards the end of last year.
I am only now getting around to notifying the revenue.
Is it best to be taxed as a joint married couple? Or seperately?? a.k.a will we keep more take home pay as a couple if taxed jointly?

There are no hard and fast rules to this one. You should get someone (preferrably a tax advisor) to have a look at your situation. There may be no advantage to it. You should speak to an independant professional advisor on this.

Opting for joint/aggregated [broken link removed] should leave you no worse off and possibly better off if one of you is on 41% and the other on 20%. You need to opt for your preferred married taxation option before March 31st and you should be able to balance things out for 2006 if there is any tax due back due to your change in status.
