my fella recently lost his job like many others in construction. we live together and when he went to sign up for social welfare he was asked about my financial details and was assesed taking my wages into account assesed as a couple is what im trying to say. We have been living together for 8 years for the full 8 years we were both working we never got asked by the tax man if we wanted a joint assesment. And get the benifits of Joint assesments so why now

Single people co-habiting are not entitled to be assessed jointly by Revenue. Only married people can be jointly assessed.

The SW. assesses co-habiting couple in the same way as married couple.
The reason SW were asking about your financial situation is to see if your partner would be entitled to claim for you as a dependent if he was applying for JB
