Currently working full time but would like to consider 2 or 3 days a week for the year prior to retirement.

If I were to do that would I still have an entitlement to full jobseekers benefit following retirement for 9 months assuming of course that I was available for and seeking full time employment?

Your part time work should not be an impediment - its the PRSI that counts. However, for JB you need to indicate on the application that you are available, and looking for, full time employment.

When you have ceased the part time employment you could apply for a Jobseekers Benefit. Provided you are fully unemployed you could qualify for either scheme.

"Am I eligible for Jobseeker’s Pay-Related Benefit or Jobseeker’s Benefit?

The new Jobseeker’s Pay-Related Benefit payment replaces Jobseeker’s Benefit if you are fully unemployed and your last day of employment was on or after Friday 28 March 2025."

You would be entitled to whichever scheme gives you the higher payment. Check out how much benefit you would receive from each scheme and apply for the one that pays you the highest amount.

This could be either the new pay related or the non pay related scheme provided that you have the necessary Prsi contributions.
