A friend is working freelance for independant television production companies. She's constantly moving up and down in terms of rates which sometimes makes it difficult to negoiate as it seems she's at the mercy of a whim and not a standard rate per specific role. Does anyone know of a rate card or what would be considered the standard rates in this area? She works as a researcher but sometimes a cordinater.Any help is greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately with the independant sector of the TV industry, that is just the way it is. Salaries / rates differ widely.
RTE of course as a semi state body have salary scales and so on. But in the indy sector it really depends on how good a negotiator you are in terms of selling yourself and selling what you do to achieve the salary you deserve.
