Job security when out sick.

Hi my husband has been off sick since May 2010, with on going medical issues (Tumur in the Pancreas). He is on currently on illness benefit. He works within construction in a Quarry. The company is under pressure and recently cut wages by 15%. His boss is due to call out to see him next week and he thinks it maybe to let him go. Just wanted some idea of his rights if this is the cse. I have looked on the NERA site but cannot really find anything that will help. Just wanted to know the following

1) Can he be sack while on sick certs ???
2) would be entitled to redundancy ???

2) No

His entitlement to statutory redundancy depends on lenght of service?
