Job dilema

I applied for 2 jobs recently. The interviews were held a week apart. I received confirmation of getting the first job before I had the interview for the second. I accepted the first job, as I didn't hold out much hope of getting the second one ... which is the job I really wanted. It turns out I did get the second job. Now my question is, how do I turn down the first job having already accepted it? Am I morally bound to accept it even though I would much prefer the second job? Has anyone been in a similar situation? Advice please. Thanks as always.

To be honest I would go with the job you like and want most. Yes it will mean you will have to confront the difficulties around the job you have accepted however life is too short and I suggest follow your dreams at every step possible.

If you were talking about people and marriage proposals then I'd say it was a moral dilemma. In this case it's only a job. I think there can only be one answer here. Contact the first employer and explain the situation in terms of you landing the "dream job". Apologise a lot and rescind your acceptance. You have done nothing untoward, and would always regret not taking the job you really wanted. I guess others may have a different perspective.
Good luck!

I agree with other posters. You have no legal obligation to the employer you accepted the position with. Morally in my opinion all you have to be is honest. Congratulations by the way on obtaining a job you really wanted.

If it's any consolation, most companies wouldn't think twice about retracting job offers if their situation changed. I've seen it plenty of times. Go with the job you really want
