Japanese Maple Query

I recently (3 monthe ago) planted a Japanese maple in my front garden. Shortly afterwards, many of the leaves started to turn a greyish colour and appeared like they were dying. Things haven't improved a whole lot since. It's growing ok but many of the leaves seem to be suffering the same fate. Any ideas, anyone?

Jap maples don't like full sun lex, the leaves turn gray and burnt looking. If this is the case, you need to move it to a semi-shaded area. Strangely they like morning sun, and then some shade.

What type of soil were they planted in? Acer's should be planted in ericaceous soil. They grow best in acid to neutral soil. They also need to be protected from strong winds.

Thanks, guys. It's in my front garden in full sunlight. I'm not sure about the soil type but it doesn't get too much wind. Sure the weather, along with everything else, is always perfect in Cork! ;)

How do you know what kind of soil is in your garden? I'm making do with the muck the builders left behind.

You may be better moving it. Is the damage extensive? ie every leaf? If so, I'd move it. You could wait until Autumn if the damage isn't very bad. Soil does matter, you could also include sulfate of potash and of iron which might help too.
