IT & Management - too much too soon?

Is it too ambitious to think I might be considered for the role? I would feel more confident in say a years time but this is exactly the type of role I want in the future so I don't want to let the opportunity pass.

Go for it. s/he who hesitates is lost.

Make sure that you feel confident that you'll get the role, prepare and be aware of what kind of candidate they are looking for.

By not applying for the position you have already made the decision for the company, that they don't want you. The interview panel's job is to decide if they want you. Your job is to decide if you want the job. If you do then you apply, do your homework and put your best foot forwards. If you don't then you don't apply. Whether or not you might or might not get it or what they might think of you is irrelevant. The only variable over which you can exert influence is yourself and in this context you can only influence the company by applying.

I'm pretty confident I could do a great job, I'm working on the application at the moment.

My lack of confidence in the application stems from my age and paltry 7 months exp in a semi management role ;-)

Shouldn't stop you applying and hopefully getting the interview. If you are honest and tell them exactly what you have posted here (ie experience, nature of job experience to date etc ) then let them decide on how that fits their expectations. Maybe your 4yrs experence in a university is more valuable to them than your 7 months at management ? Let them figure it out.

Usually a job spec is a wish list from the employer and it's hard to know what the relative priorities of the different specs are. e.g. in this case they may be looking for someone who is quite technical and if needed they can have someone mentor you on the management side. Of course it could be the other way round. Apply, sounds like you've nothing to lose.

hi sorry i didn't know how to delete my post sorry for confusion rosiemc.

Oh, no prob so....

I was confused and not being a regular poster I was worried I'd done something stupid.

Nevermind though, thanks to people who responded. I'll be sending in an application for the aforementioned job by the end of the week.

I have to find my Leaving Cert results first - I never thought I'd have to look at those again, how relevant is my mark in History to my ability to do an IT Management Job
