is there an Energy saving Electric shower that can run from the hot tank or cold tap

Hi

A question - has anyone heard of an energy saving Electric shower that can take a feed of the hot water cylinder and if there is no hot water in the cylinder switch back to normal heated electric shower?

My colleague seems to think they were installed in some energy saving houses in recent years?
