A bit of background. 10 years ago I went to Australia on a 12 month working holiday visa. I left a credit card of mine with my brother in case any unforeseen bills came through back here. He ended up spending £400 on my card with my permission. It was the only time this card was ever used either by me or by him and I have never repaid this amount. I ended up living in Australia for 5 years and have now been home for another 5 since then. The Card was with MBNA. I did contact them a few years back and they said they have no record of it even though I had account number and statement for the card. She said they were pre 2000 and those numbers were all changed. She said the debt was probably sold to a collection agency and due to the time lapse it is more than likely written off at this stage. Could this debt still be floating around somewhere?
