If it was land registry you could get a copy of their folio, the charge would be registered on it-it is a public document- however it would not necessarily show how much the mortgage was for. If registry of deeds you would need to do hand searches and it is more difficult and costly and again wouldn't show the amount of the mortgage.
Usually people want to know how much of a mortgage is on a property when they are bidding on it so that they have an idea if the vendor has to get to a certain price or how much of a margin there is. Am I right?
