Hello all,
I can't seem to find the answer to this.
Is the Local Property Tax deductable as an expense for the purposes of my rental income tax return for 2013?

No argument - it clearly is, as the rate of LPT chargeable is variable by the applicable local authority and the LPT is therefore "a rate levied by a local authority" as required by the legislation in order to qualify as a deduction.

(Just to play devil's advocate here)

But how is it levied by the local authority?

It's levied by central Government, and administered and collected as a tax.

Just because the local authorities might at a future time get a say in what the rate of the tax will be, doesn't mean it's levied by them...

It is a current issue as one has to calculate preliminary tax for this year and if I recall correctly, Michael Noonan did say it was/would be...:):D
