Is "Super Unleaded" worth the extra?

Has anybody got an opinion as to whether or not "super unleaded" petrol (e.g. Shell V-power unleaded) is worth the additional cost?

Some performance cars need the slightly higher octane fuel to reach their published performance figures and once they "know" that's whats in the tank, they perform better / differently.

For the run of the mill family saloon, despite the marketing efforts, I'm not sure it makes a whole heap of difference other than raising your fuel bill.
 
I filled my car up with it once by mistake, Although I was annoyed with myself for doing it I felt that my car felt more responsive when accelerating.

I'm not sure if there are any benefits for the engine.
 
Shell V Power is cleaner for the car engine & is a little "greener" for the environment than the regular unleaded. Definitley a noticeable performance difference when used.

Any know if Topaz have an equivalent ?
I can no loner buy V Power at my local Shell garage
 
Nope Topaz have done away with V-Power
It didn't have a higher octane rating ayway...


Go for Maxol E5 the highest octane petrol avaiablie for non flexi fuel vehicles in Ireland at 99.2 Average

Performance gains wont be normally seen in your average 1.4/1.6
If you have a higher performance engine and a turbo you will notice the difference.

Aparently all topaz stations in leinster are stocking E5 (as par maxol) but there not openly displaying it yet.

My own car is designed to run on 99/100 ron but i cant say i've noticed any performance increases,more so less economy if anything compared to 95ron.

Although i know a couple of guys running powerfull evo's and imprezas who are having them specifically mapped for E5 and reporting good gains.

the only super unleaded in ireland at the moment is maxol E5 which is 99 ron.
shell v-power is the same old 95 ron just with cleaning additives inside.

unless you have a jap import like a lancer evo, sti impreza, etc etc or M3 or another high performance car then you will not benefit from the higher octane.
 
How does the price of Maxol E5 compare with normal unleaded petrol ?
 
No difference at all its the same price.

E85 on the other hand is cheaper than normal unleaded
