Hello,
In the case of a jointly-assessed couple, I understand that one spouse is regarded as the 'assessed' spouse and the other is therefore non-assessed.
Is the non-assessed spouse entitled to call the Revenue and ask for a copy of the 2011 tax return to be sent to him independently of the assessed spouse?
The context of the question is that a couple who were jointly assessed in 2011 have separated in 2012. The non-assessed spouse wants to know what the assessed spouse included in the 2011 tax return for her income but assessed spouse won't provide the information directly. So the non-assessed spouse wants to get the 2011 return directly from tax authorities. Is he entitled to do so given that, to my mind, it is as much his tax return as it is hers.
Any comments, observations or suggestions welcome.
