I think if it's under 6 years old you can insist on a repair
Does that only apply to the manufacturer, or any repair service?
I'm unsure, personally I would go to the retailer as i didn't buy the product from the manufacturer

OP states it was `wobbly` coming on ......so its more than likely a capacitor in the power supply faulty which when left unchanged blows the line output transistor , thats in the case of the Philips tv they describe (32"... 4 years old ...probably chassis L 1.1)Your sure his tube isn't gone ?

Never had to replace a transformer in one of those tvs...but hey..you`re happy...Thanks for all the replies got tv repaired left in yesterday ready today, new transformer fitted and the picture is perfect so far. Cost €140 glad I did'nt dump it.
