Is my Tax right ?

Hey everyone new here, because i got my first payslip for this month and my tax is shocking...

It was a christmas period so i got a bigger payslip than normal, but my annual income does not exceed 15k a year.

I tried reading on revenue about it, but i find it hard to understand, so maybe someone could shed some light for a young lad thanks in advance.

You may start to get some tax back as your monthly salary/wage comes down

Why don't you pay USC - do you have a medical card or something?

Tax plus PRSI totalling €226.47 on a gross salary of €2098.13 does not seem in the least shocking to me!! That is slightly more than 10%. Try 51% of your salary being paid in Tax, PRSI and USC for shocking!!

@emeralds if you are paying 51% of your salary in tax you are either earning €1,000,000 or overpaying your tax.

I presume you mean you pay 52% on any income over €32,800!

The effective rate is much lower on €50k it's about 30%.

Thanks for reply, well it was never that big... so i thought something could be wrong.

I had one, but not anymore.

i have never gotten that much for pay before, so i wouldnt know much about the tax, i thought if the annual is less than 15k only 4% gets taken off.

Over the full year,on a salary of 15k,you won't pay any tax.You will gradually get the tax paid in January back in the year,(from about May onwards)
