I am advising someone on bankrupty. he has commercial debts over six years old which would be statute barred, but also vat and tax liabilities going back 8 years. My feeling is that these simply continue to be due and payable until collected or written off. Is that the case?

According to a debt collection specialist solicitor who does collection work for the Revenue, when I asked this question, the answer was that Irish tax debt is not statute barred.

dublin66 - just to be crystal clear...

Is the answer
1) No - It is not the case
2) No - Irish tax debt is ever statute barred

:)

I was thinking 2 but then realised the questions in the header and the post were at variance!
