Hi , just looking for some advice. Recenly built own house and sank a well. Our water was very dirty so we got it tested and were told that there is too much iron in the water....Has anyone had this problem and can you recommend any filter systems?

Don't have experience with iron problems, but have dealt with Springsoft and they are able to deal with all such water related problems. I'll send you a PM with their contact details.

You can get your local county council out to test the water (I know you have already done this - but you didn't say who carried out the test?). But it might be worth having the council do it as after you get the results, they provide you with unbiased advice as how to proceed with any problems you may have with your water. This service isn't free however, I think it costs about 100 euro. There are also grants available for wells etc but I think that may be just for existing wells on old property but it might be worth contacting your council to find out.

Thats great, thanks a mill. Will look into Springsoft and contact Council. We got the test done in an independent lab, but it would be def worth looking up about grants..cheers

Here is a pdf of a leaflet that gives info on well water and contact details for several County Councils - not sure where you are located so this may or may not be relevant:

Also, this link here provides a download of a word document that explains the grant scheme. I know it is a Wexford CC site, but the document seems to cover all of the Republic.

Thanks, I will go through the grant scheme now...i think there might be sumtin in it that house has to be over 7 years but I iwll check with Kilkenny CC as well, just incase..thanks again

I think the proviso is that you haven't received the grant in the past 7 yrs... new builds are eligible.
