Irish refresher for public service interview

Hi

I am applying for a job in a local authority and there are extra marks available if you can display a good knowledge of Irish.

I got an A in the Leaving Cert. but that is a long time ago and I would need to do some kind of refresher course. Am based in Dublin, southside.

Can anyone advise a good place to look. Have checked evening courses.ie but didn't see anything suitable.

My advice would be to get a couple of private grinds, its amazing after a couple of hours of speaking to someone in Irish how quickly it comes back to you.

Agree with Carmel. Also, pick a few topics and make up something about them.
e.g. what to do in spare time, family info, schools you went to, your job etc.

I used to have a set number of 'stories' and try and direct the conversation around so I could talk about the topics I had practiced. Of course u need to be subtle about it so its not obvious what you're doing.

Also, dont be reluctant to use a few English words if you get stuck. You often hear irish speakers doing this and it sounds better than stumbling along, searching for the right word.

No harm watching a bit of TG4. The news can be good for picking up on the current topics and the Irish for words like recession

There is a very good multimedia course available called Turas Teanga, consisting of cds and a book. I used it myself (bought it in Easons)when I needed to refresh my Irish and found it very useful. You might even find it at a local library.
