Irish person thinking of sitting the Florida Bar Exam

Hi guys,

I have a LL.B (Hons.) Degree from a University in Ireland. I am a U.S. citizen and am very interested in sitting the Florida Bar Exam with the ultimate goal of becoming an Attorney in Florida.

Does anyone know the correct way to go about being eligible to sit the Florida Bar Exams? Do you need to have a Law Degree from a University in the U.S. or would my Law Degree be recognised as sufficient to allow me sit the Florida Bar Exams?

I really want to get the wheels in motion and make the move to Florida from Ireland.

Any advice would be absolutely fantastic!

You should contact the Florida Bar Association to be sure. I know that you can sit the New York exams without having trained in the US - they accept a foreign law degree from certain Irish Universities. I don't know about Florida but it should be easy to find out from them.
 
Thanks a mill. I am wondering if anyone else has any more information?? Perhaps someone knows someone practicing in the U.S. from Ireland originally??
 
Why don't you just call them? They also have a website.

In any case, just because someone Irish is practising there doesn't mean that they sat the Florida bar exam originally. For a lot of States, you have to either qualify in the US or else sit one of the bar exams that is open to foreign-qualified candidates (like New York) and then go on to sit the other State's exams.

Why don't you just email them/look at their website? Why you think you'll get more accurate information on an Irish personal finance website than going direct to the Florida bar is beyond me.
 
I think that unless you went to University in America you have to have been admitted to the bar for 10 years in another state before you can be admitted to Florida. I believe that NY, Cali and Texas are the only states that you can sit the bar from a foreign jurisdiction. Check in out properly but I believe this is the case.
