Irish Non Resident living abroad selling US shares

I used to be a resident of Ireland but am currently living abroad (Middle East). I am still classed as resident for tax purposes but will be living here for the next few years.

I own shares that are traded on the NYSE, the majority of which I purchased while living and working in Ireland. I wish to sell the shares and am trying to understand what my tax liability will be.

I was told that there might be a case where once I am no longer a tax resident in Ireland, given the shares aren't held in Ireland, that I would not have to pay CGI on them. Is this correct? If so, whats the complete length of time I would have to be outside of Ireland before I can sell them?
