Irish Coastal Road Trip September 2025

First day looks too long to me. After Hook I'd get the ferry to Passage East and stay in Dunmore East.
 
Strandhill to gweedore to letterk to derry. Youre kind of missing a lot of the best bits of the northwest like fanad (knockalla drive (google it)), ramelton village, innisowen, dunnfanaghy (incl horn head).

Appreciate ya cant do it all though.

Sorry @michaelm , You did mention that before and I forgot to add it to the trip, have done so now and changed the map and edited my post#38
But I think we'll still push on to Cobh on the first day
 
First night in Cobh. The guest house you chose. Bedroom 14 sqm, this would be too small for us also the shower has a fixed shower head and no hand held component. Already feeling claustrophobic.

I take it you've never been to Japan, 14sqm would be palatial to some of the rooms we stayed in

For us when it comes to road trips the nightly accommodation will vary greatly as it will be based on what is available on that day in that area
and as we're only there for one night it's just somewhere to rest the head but if we were there for a week that would be a different story

There wasn't much choice on Booking.com in Cobh on the third of September or indeed some of the other overnight stops but I stuck them on the trip itinerary as an indication as to price per night and to give me an overall price point as to how much this trip is going to cost

We're still not sure of where exactly we'll be staying each night as we're still deciding whether to wing it or not except for the hotel in Belfast

My advice, for what it's worth,would be to wing it (and where possible to avoid Booking.com) unless perhaps you intend to be in a busy spot on a Saturday night.

I'd also be prepared to adapt plans on the hoof to capitalise on good weather and avoid bad weather.
 
OMG, we're actually in agreement on something

And apart from the weather there is also the idea that I want to remain as flexible as possible to change the end point of each day depending on what each days route throws at us so as I don't arrive too early or to late to our accommodation for each night which could extend the trip beyond the 15 days

I presume by Knockalla drive you mean the coast road between Portsalon and Rathmullan,
if it is I've adjusted the route to take this in instead of the drive along Mulroy Bay, after all it's supposed to be a "coastal road trip"
As regards the other suggestions I think there already there on the route like Fanad Lighthouse and Horn Head

This is the thing about these type of road trips, you can't see it all but you'll get a good flavour of the areas that you pass through
And living in Dublin if I feel the need or want to go back to a certain area it's not like it's a million miles away
I've only once been to Donegal to I think Malin Beg on a scuba diving weekend many many years ago
So it's the one part of the trip that I'm really looking forward to and the one place in Ireland that a friend has a holiday home that's been offered but never availed of

Just looking at this now and where I won't drop down to it from Healy's pass, I might end the third day there instead of Allihies

I think it's in relation to where the drivers window is positioned ??
and that's all presuming I'm driving a RHD

Anyhow I think at the moment I'll be going clockwise
