Interview questions

Hi all,
I just got a call for an interview from a leading financial information company which provides mission critical data designed to support fund pricing, securities operations, research, and portfolio management. I have been called for a job as a data researcher in funds pricing department. If successful, I will be required to collect, input & validate Managed Fund prices onto our in-house databases.

I have had administartive experience but no work exp. in finance. But have a commerce degree. I am very nervous. Can anybody help me with the kind of questions I might be asked. How should i prepare for the same? (training will be provided). I am desperate to start working and I want to get this job. Can anybody tell me what exactly is this job about, althoiugh i have vague idea. am sorry if i sound very stupid.

They wouldn't call you for interview if they didn't believe you were a suitable candidate having read your CV so you're already doing well. I predict that the key skills required for a data researcher in a funds pricing department are good organisational skills, analytical skills and the ability to work alone as well as in a team. You should refer to your admin work experience to prove that you are organised and efficient. You should also refer to your B.Comm to prove that you have a good grasp of different business & financial concepts. Say that you're now ready (& indeed looking forward!) to apply the theory you learned in college. You will need to be enthusiastic at all times to show that you will soak up any training offered and apply the business skills learned in college with the common sense gained from your work experience. Stay calm and you'll do fine. Good luck!

I think you should take the interview as just that and not the last chance of employment. Remember that its important for you to find out eveyrthing you need to know about the job/company from the interview. Asking questions like 'what are the typical daily tasks expected of the candidate you will hire, are there any upcoming projects that I will need to hit the ground running on, why do you think I can do this job.' Just find out everything you can in the interview. Trust me, that will make you shine as much as selling your strengths will.

Have been reading through a lot to gain as much knowledge as i can about the company and also in general about financial markets. This in turn is making me confident. Rkeane, u gave a wonderful tip as to not to think of this as a last chance.
