I am considering bringing my left-hand drive car back to Ireland next year and re-registering it with Irish plates. I have owned it for a couple of years so shouldn't have to pay VRT or import duty. I wonder if anyone can knows which insurance companies would insure a LHD car? According to EU law companies are not allowed to charge more for a LHD car but I would like to know if this is true in practice. I have tried 123.ie but they don't insure left hand drives at all. Would appreciate any advice you can give.

Most insurers should do it. It will have to declared to them. In most cases they ask on the proposal form whether it is a left-hand drive.

they will probably apply a loading of up to 25% on the car. To be fair, its a reasonable loading. You are at a huge disadvantage for overtaking if you have a LHD car. try overtaking from the passenger seat sometime!!!
