Instructions to solicitor when abroad

Can a person (the plaintiff) who is abroad issue instructions to an Irish solicitor in an ongoing case in the Irish courts?

Would it be necessary for the person to have to return to Ireland in order to issue instructions?

Can instructions be issued by email/telephone? Does the solicitor have to follow his clients instructions if issued in such a manner?

Solicitors advise. Clients instruct.

If solicitors are unhappy with instructions, they should come off record. Otherwise they accept and act on instructions.

If clients are unhappy with solicitor, they should move to another solicitor.

Mostly, in my own practice, I will require instructions in writing/email - clients have a most peculiar habit of disremembering having given verbal instructions when it all goes belly-up! The client does not need to be physically present in the office.
