Inheritance whilst Non Resident

I have been asked a Question that I cannot answer....perhaps you can help.

If an Irish Citizen, spends more than 183 days abroad in a given tax year how are they treated for CAT purposes if they receive an inheritance from Ireland.

If either the disponer or beneficiary are either irish resident or ordinarily resident at the date of gift then Irish CAT will apply no questions asked

Also if the property is Irish situate then Irish Cat will apply regardless of the residence of either parties

Just to be aware that there may be taxes in the country of residence of the person making the gift or where deceased is domiciled/resident also or where property located- Inheritance tax in UK, Estate Tax in USA, and double tax may come into play.

This can get complicated since Ireland changed rules a while ago - most countries pay Inheritance /Gift tax where the donor or deceased is resident/domiciled - in Ireland the residence status of the benificiary comes into play also.
