I am in the initial stages of contemplating a move from a financial accounting role within industry. I am ACCA qualified and have an interest in moving into areas such as 1) structured finance 2) equities research or 3) fund managment.

Does anyone have an direct experience or knowledge of any of these 3 areas in terms of typical day, typical hours, pay and bonuses etc.

Sounds like a similar thread that I have already replied on.

Are you willing to travel to the UK or the US to work? There are some opportunities in Dublin for this type of work in Ireland but I would imagine that it is difficult to get started unless you are quite well networked. Given your accountancy qualification, perhpas equity research or structured finance are good places to start.

As for equity research and fund management - the hours can be long and there is probably a large amount of overseas travel as you will have to meet companies, review their physical operations, talk to customers and attend broker roadshows and conferences. Rewards can vary from the basic analyst renumeration (at a guess €40k/50k) to the top fund manager / hedge fund manager who can earn millions every year.
