Income Levy Certificate....wrong for tax return?

I am a PAYE worker doing a tax return for 2009 on Form 11 (I sold some share options). I have an income levy certificate giving my income levy payments up to 30 April 2009 and then to 31 Dec 2009. The certificate also gives the gross amount that the levy was based on for the two periods. I would have thought that the two gross amounts would equal my gross income for 2009. It doesn't, and is much less. However, the levy amount seems about right. My wife has the same situation. Anybody else see this? This is causing an error in submitting Form 11 when I put in the gross amounts as per the certificate.

Hi Squonk, Gross income for income levy purposes is different to gross income for PAYE/PRSI purposes. The main difference is that pension contributions are not deductible for income levy purposes. Therefore you would expect the gross income for income levy purposes to be higher than say, gross income on your P60. Are you saying the P60 amount is higher?

My gross income as per the certificate for income levy is LOWER than my actual gross income! (but the levy amount seems about right...2% of gross income (from May 2009))

It should be the gross income figure per your P60 that is used for the tax return - assuming it is correct. Maybe you should ask someone in your payroll department to reconcile the figures so you are certain they are correct.

also look at last payslip for year, try to see how they calulated levy on payslip, as other poster said use p60 gross if looks right

Ok, I contacted payroll and they explained the reason to me....my company changed ownership mid-way through the year and there were two income levy certs issued (the first of which was issued several months ago and I forgotten about). My numbers now add up. My wife's is still off a little bit...I need to think about that one. Thanks everyone.
