I'm looking for some help on information regarding rent supplement.
I'm not going to go in to my life history but due to severe disability I missed a lot of my education and hope to start to remedy that this year.
I am on disability allowance and live with family but if I go in to education I would need to move beside the college, the problem being I could never afford rent on disability and will be unable to work to fund rent so I was wondering what would I need to do.
I understand that I'd need to apply to the council housing list but does it need to be the council of where I plan to go or can I apply to my local council also if I'm undecided as to where I'm going, can I apply to a few councils?
Does it need to be a face to face meeting to apply?
Also if I am added to the housing list, do I need to do anything else until I apply for rent allowance?
Although I contribute substantial money to the bills of the house, as its not in my name I have no record of this, will this impact my applications for either the housing list or rent supplement?
Do I explain to the council my reasons for applying for social housing?
I apologise for all the questions, I'm usually very well clued in on things but I have no experiance of rent supplement/social housing and I'm not finding the the citizensinformation site on rent supplement that easy to wrap my head around.
Thank you.
