Importing Timber Frame from UK - VAT Question

Hi Guys,

With the way sterling is heading I have been thinking about importing a timber frame from the UK. I was talking with a timber frame supplier in England who gave me a budget quote for a timber frame house + windows & doors Ex VAT. He told me they always supply at zero v.a.t. in the UK because with a new build there no VAT is chargeable (lucky UK self builders!)

He never supplied to Ireland before and I am a PAYE worker, not VAT registered. Can anyone tell me the procedure for the UK company and me if I were to place an order, how to administer the VAT, what percentage it would be. Also if they were to supply & erect the frame what would the VAT rate be? i.e. would there be different rates applied for materials and labour?

Maybe someone here has been through the experience.

Thanks,
Dgray

If the materials supplied are zero-rated in the UK and are supplied with a VAT invoice to that effect, then I can't see how you will wind up with a VAT bill here, as you have met the VAT obligations in the supplying country, as per EU laws.

With regard to supply and fit, have them invoiced seperately, zero VAT on the materials and 15% UK VAT on the fit, once the invoice is issued by and paid to a UK registered company.

Never been through the experience, but it sounds tempting.

Now let the fun begin...
