Import duty on private sale

Hi,

I'm considering importing a racing bike from Canada. The bike is second hand and its from a 100% private seller (using paypal for the transaction if that matters).

I'm wondering if I would get hit for any duty or tax if I went ahead with this transaction? If so, what would it be approximately?

Vat at 21.5 %, 6 euro charge from the post office.
They will possibly look for a copy of the paypal invoice to calculate the cost.

You might get away without paying duty but factor in approx: 3% just in case.

The vat is calculated on both postage cost and the product cost combined.


Then again, you might get lucky and not have to pay anything. It depends on whether it gets pulled for inspection or not.

So generally you should factor in approx: 25% on top of purchase price. If you are still getting it a bargain then go for it. Otherwse think twice.
