I have an odlish van in the UK for use when over there. The aim is to convert this into a Camper. Storage will be lost after Christmas therefore I aim to bring the van over.
The question is; Do I convert this van to a motorhome (& register as such in the UK) before I import or after I import as a van and convert over here? VRT is 13+% as a van would be €150 as a camper could be a Lot more??
I think it is pretty strict on importing as a camper specifically on height from floor to ceiling. I imported a coach built camper and the chap from revenue had his tape out measuring... I don't know what the specs. Good luck.
Are you 100% sure you'll need to pay VRT? It's your van and presumably has been for a number of years so can you claim exemption on the basis of transfer of residence?
