Implications of missing a payment?

Hi
I have an account that ran too low to pay my mortgage this month. Would it be possible to get a bad credit rating because of my mistake or any fines because I'm going to have to make a late payment?

If this was just a banking error on your part and you have the funds available in your account contact your lender and arrange with them to draw the monthly repayment now. You may receive an automated letter from your lender to advise of insufficient funds. If you receive this after rectifying the repayment it should be in order to disregard the letter.

If this is not a once off you might also want to look into changing the date of your payment to one which suits you better to avoid this happening again.

If you are having difficulty with making the repayment contact your lender as soon as possible to see if you can come to an arrangement to suit you both to avoid this having an adverse effect on your credit rating.

if the payment goes more than 30 days in arrears, then a missed payment will be logged with the Irish Credit Bureau

thanks for the information.

luckily i was able to transfer money to the account before the direct debit was to occur.

anyway, i can imagine the bank are not interested in any excuse i would have for missing the payment

Might be worth switching your DD to come out of the account your income gets paid into so you will have peace of mind and won't have to keep watching your bank balances - any mistake could be costly!
