BAckstory: I got a Willis immersion installed. Its basically a mini-cylinder which sits plumbed in beside the main tank. Cold comes in at the bottom from the bottom of the main tank , hot out at top and into the top of the main tank. So, very fast heating / recovery in the hot water tank, and hot water all the way down the tank.
Now, the thing is, the water is coming out a touch hot for my taste as regards safety (much more than hand hot).
PLumber turned down the thermostat. UNfortunately, this caused the water at the top of the tank to still get just as hot, but the stat cut out when the water towards the bottom of the tank (which is where it feeds into the willis) got to the new lower temperature.
So, I can understand why that happens but its not great. Have turned the setting back up, might as well have a full tank of hot water instead of a quarter tank of it.
Plumber says that if I want my water at lower temp, he can fit a thermostatic mixer valve which will mix cold in with the hot to deliver lower temp water to my hot water taps. Sounds ideal.
Leaving aside the rights and wrongs of a Willis tank (unless you have experience of same, and feel that it is malfunctioning),
will this solution work?
