Immersion not working/shower pressure bad!

Hi - we moved into our new house to find the immersion isn't working. We've checked the fuse box and everything is ok. The immersion just has an on/off and sink/bath switch and we are wondering if we can add a timer to the immersion when we get it fixed?

Also, the pressure in the shower is quite bad and we are thinking of adding a pump to improve this. Are these things that can be done at the same time by the same person?

Final question - will these updates be expensive? :)

I installed [broken link removed] on my mother's OFCH system but it is actually an immersion timer. Easy enough to install if you have a little wiring/DIY savvy and take the normal electrical precautions. If not then get a professional to do it for you. About €40 from Maplin in Ireland. But you can probably get other similar timers cheaper and maybe more flexible (e.g. the old rotary ones are arguably more flexible and easier to use than the digital ones) cheaper from an electrical wholesaler or shop.
 
thanks for the information, will look into it. This is probably a silly question but is it a plumber or electrican that you need to call out to fix an immersion?

I'm taking it the Element is fitted to the cylinder. If so call an Electrician.

Also is your shower Electric or mains?
If its electric you may have to replace it with a model with a built in pump.


Fixing the Emmersion shuldn't be expensive however with your shower you could be talking as much as 400 for a replacement up grade with fitting.( assuming its Electric).
If its a new build in an estate the site Electrician might do you a deal for an upgrade.
 
The element is fitted to the cylinder and the shower isn't an electric shower.

I'll look into fixing the immersion and adding a timer to it. The pressure in the shower will have to stay as it is for another while as it seems to be quite expensive to add a pump to it. Thanks for your reply!

Good pump to get is a Stuart Turner Neg Head Pump which casts about 450 euro

immersions are cheap and easy to fit but maybe you should look at solar heating as the Immersion is very very expensive way to heat water
