I'm stuck in a rut...(and need to get out of it)

In my current jbo three years now. Its nothing fancy just a clerical/office job. The pay is great better than most of my mates but it has taken its toll on me, work with two other people and the atmosphere in the office is non existent at the best of times.

Ideally I want to own my own business some day but I wanna get some experience under my belt first but I just dont know where to go next. Was thinking of trying to enter sales as the experience would be good for me. Sales exec, or sales rep, or even sales merchandiser.....

I need a job that keeps me on my feet and keeps me thinking all of the time. Love a good challenge and love problem solving and generating ideas.

Anyone any ideas they can throw at me? I need some inspiration to get outta here.
 
That I am not 100% sure about, maybe an events company or directory like company, like independent directory but different. I have a business idea at the min, few people said it was good but wanna get some experience before I start working on it.
 
what about getting a job in that area? And taking a start your own business course at night? Lifes too short to be stuck in a job you dislike.

Hey Bob - are you absolutely determined to change jobs expecially if it's a good one? Is there something else you could do to get out of the rut like say further education, a hobby???
Why not use the stability of your job to enhance your life in other ways?
Just a thought.....
 
I have applied for an advertising sales exec job (there was no experience necessary) as that would tie in with the directory idea I have as it would be advertising too so just have to wait and see. Although I hope I am doing the right thing going down that route.
 
Hi Bob, I posted something similar recently, my problem was/is falling into unemployment after doing substitute teaching for a while. A few weeks ago I started a FAS training programme (industry based, don't want to be so specific that I might identify myself to anyone). It's been a great idea. It's of such a high standard and so relevant to a lot of different jobs I'm getting inspiration about things I could be doing every day. They do courses about starting businesses too. And you gets lots of certificates for things you do along the way, ECDL, etc. Could work for you.
 
Don't take any rash decisions, put a plan in place and work towards you goal. If you have a plan with milestones you are achieving you will feel you are getting somewhere and then you're able to stick to your job for a while longer. Make sure also to reduce your debt as much as possible while you are working so that it will be easier when you leave. Good luck!
 
Thanks for the advice. Yeah a lot of people just diss FÁS but they do a great job. Will look into it thanks.

Am doing an idea generation course next week in Guinness Enterprise Centre so hopefully I'll get something from that too.

If you stay, you will die like a flower. I have been there before and its sh*t.Research new courses, new jobs, get onto a start your own business course.....Get out and stay out, otherwise, the confidence will be chipped away at.It is not bout the money, albeit in this country it seems to be though....strange existence.
 
Well I am going on holidays tomorrow and am in the process of moving into a new apartment so I think I will wait til the end of Aug to look properly. I have a trawl through the net each day tho just to see whats out there. Yeah money is everything to a lot of people, I'd much prefer happiness anyday.

Someone said tho, youd be amd starting your own business without a degree. I disagree completely altho I would want to get one eventually but I think thats just crap talk.
