If a person requires leave from work to recuperate from an illness, and is not provided paid sick leave from their employer they can claim Illness Benefit.
If Illness BEnefit is insufficient to cover the person's monthly mortgage, is it possible to receive mortgage interest supplement for the duration of the sick leave (e.g., 1 month)?

If you satisfy the PRSI conditions for Illness Benefit, then it can be claimed whilke out of work sick. There is no obligation on employer to pay you whjile out sick, it depends on your contract/arrangements, etc. with them. ~

MIS is subject to a means test so the household income/assets/capital will determine entitlement.

Thanks Welfarite - Is it possible to claim MIS for a short period, like one month, or even a couple of weeks?

There is no minimum claim duration for MIS. I've never been aware of anyone claiming for a couple of weeks - the claim would take that long to process anyway and if there was tax rebates/back pay from work, it might knock out entitlement for such a short duration.
