Hi all

Really need to organise our walk in wardrobe and think ikea wardrobes could work really well without costing a fortune. Just wondering would anyone know if its possible to just buy the carcus and some internal fittings without the doors. As its a walk in wardrobe don't really feel the need to have doors ... if you know what I mean.

Thanks.

Yes, you can buy the carcasses (here) and internal fittings (here) seperately.

But they actually do a range for walk-in wardrobes that might suit you better (here and here)

Thanks Dubgem, but think I still favour my original idea as reckon it looks sturdier and think it would work out cheaper too. Also have the wardrobes with the sliding doors in some of the kids' bedrooms and am impressed with the quality

I have the ones with the sliding doors myself and am delighted with them, I'm sure they'll do the job for you.

We bought the carcass separately for our sliding door wardrobes. We had the doors already. You have to be a bit careful that you match the size of the carcass to the doors.

We did up our walk in wardrobe from the carcasess - saved us thousands as we were able to get all the "optional" extras included - pull out shoe racks etc. Total cost including drawers and lots of fancy extras for 3x600, 1x300 and 1 corner unit ( all extra high) was about 800 euros. Was been priced at over 2k without the fancy extras in other places.
It was a bit of a jigsaw puzzle putting it all together, but totally solid and extremely happy with it. The shoe racks and trousers haning racks are brilliant - a must!

Thanks for that Clarelassie - hadn't thought of putting in a corner unit - would have just gone down both sides of the space and not utilised the facing wall at all so must check that one out. As we've already assembled ikea wardrobes hoping we'll get through it. Think our biggest problem will be working in such a small space or else moving the carcass into such a small space but hopefully will figure it out.

One more question, we have a floor safe in this room (builder's idea!) which we need to work around. Its about 20 cms high with the base imbedded in the floor. Anyway, think the way arouund it is to cut out a section of the same size in the base of the wardrobe - just wondering if anyone has done this with ikea wardrobes and what was the result.

Thanks again.

Just one thing on the corner unit - I went for shelves above and below a hanging rail - if I was doing it again, I wouldn't do the hanging rail that connects on - it doesn't add much rail space as it limits on the larger side. We managed to kit out our walk in wardrobe with all the extras for about 700 euros. I would ask them in ikea about building it around the floor safe _ might have some ideas or tricks
