As per another thread I posted, I had my attic insulated recently, and found the attic developed a damp problem.
The reason seems to be two fold:
even tho the insulation was correctly installed, it may have caused some decrease in the air flow
and
the air temperature in a well-insulated attic is lower so condensation occurs at a lower relative humidity.
A possible third factor is that heat through an uninsulated attic may cause some convection current which might aid ventilation (not sure on this one).
Anyway, I just thought its a bit of a nasty issue as it could occur without the householder suspecting it, and could cause the roof to rot.
I think homeowners should be warned to check in case this occurs as a side-effect, and to take remedial action (increasing ventilation) if need be.
Just wanted to highlight this, maybe lots of experienced people out there are already aware of this but many more may not be.
