We are a couple in our (very) late sixties currently on the Ideal Simplicity plan. Our renewal date is 01/01/2020 and we have been quoted €3,118.12 for the coming year.
In an attempt to cut our costs I contacted LAYA today and two plans were suggested to us:

1. Simply Health Choice at €2,509.78 for the year.

2. Connect Care 100 at €2,926.19 for the year.

I have noticed that Snowyb on this forum has recently recommended Simplicity as a good plan. To renew with this plan would cost €2,823.33. It seems to me that that the only major difference between what we currently have and Simplicity is the family excess rising to €200 from €100 for out patient benefits. Am I missing anything else?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'll let Snowyb or someone more knowledgeable answer the detail of ur question, but would point out that Simplicity is going up in price in January, so bear that in mind if relevant toy ur circumstances.

Hi horusd,

Many thanks for your reply. Yes, you are correct to point out that Simplicity plan will increase in price from 1st January 2020. The €2,823 includes a cost of €82 to allow us spread the total cost over 12 monthly payments. This means that from the 1st January 2020 Simplicity plan will cost €1,370.50 per adult for those who pay upfront. It seems LAYA charge 3% to pay monthly.

Hi Riomhaire,

Yes, you are right, the only difference between Ideal Simplicity and Simplicity plan is the excess amount for day to day cover.
The main reason for choosing the Simplicity range of plans, is if you want full cover for a private room in a private hospital.
If private room cover is not a priority, the Simply Connect or Simply Connect Plus plans are worth considering;

1. Simply Connect ; price 1230pa (price increase from 2/12/2019); all public, private and 3 Hi-tech hospitals covered, inpatient excess in private or
hi-tech hospitals capped at 150 x 2 per year for all private hospital admissions. Day case excess 50 per procedure. Good day to day cover,
one euro excess, max refund 500 per year. (50% of 1000 = 500).

2. Simply Connect Plus; price 1286pa; (not sure if price will change for Jan 1 2020. All public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered; inpatient
excess capped at 150 x 1 per year for all private hospital admissions. Day case excess 50 per procedure. Good day to day cover, one euro excess,
max refund per year.( 50% of 2000 = 1000)

@snowyb Do you know if it’s possible to renew the policy a day or two earlier than its renewal date to avoid the price increase?
