ice between roof slates and felt

I noticed recently when in my attic that there was quite a bit of ice between the slates and the felt.

The felt is waterproof, I didn't notice any leakage.

What is the likely cause/ resolution ?

Is it normal to have ice between the slates and the felt in freezing weather, I would expect its not normal.

Louis,

We're having the worst freeze in 50 years - I expect its normal during such weather, but I'm not fifty years old yet, so I cannot say.

For the record, the rain-laden easterlies last week so inundated our gable render that we had a leak at the frame of the door into the utility.

Here seven years and never happened before - given half a chance the wall just dries out, but with such low temperatures it never had a chance.

Waiting for fine weather to give it a close-up visual inspection for cracking and spalling of the render due to frost action.

Ho hum - still, at least yesterdays snow has stayed - great fun for the kids.

:)

Me included.
