I can't use the bold or italics function

I still cannot get the BOLD, ITALICS or UNDERLINE function to work since this system improvement !
In particular, I still cannot edit posts by highlighting of text and it is a real pain.

At the top of the box, this is what you see - the options are greyed out.

Click on the orange icon on the extreme right

and you will see

I have no idea why there is an option to switch off editing.

The BB Code option allows people to encode their font and formatting preferences using html-like codes.

Yeah, well, it's very similar to HTML, but there are some variations. So you can use the buttons to do the formatting, or type in the encoding yourself in the BBCode standard, like typing [ b ] at the start, and [ / b ] (without the spaces) at the end of words you want to be in bold.

That standard is supported in multiple bulletin board systems, so for those posting formatted content in multiple places, it allows them set the format once and post many times.

It would probably also help with tables which look a bit awkward in BB.
